Dennis the Menace is an 1986 cartoon American animated series produced by General Mills, based on the original comic strip by Hank Ketcham.
The series was originally aired in syndication in the U.S., distributed and sponsored by General Mills. The first season aired in syndication in 1986, while the second season originally aired on CBS in 1987 (and later added to the syndication package in 1988).
In the newspaper cartoon and comic book series, Dennis's parents were aggressive towards him, usually forcing him to sit in the corner whenever he was caught into mischief. However, in the cartoon series, Dennis almost never got punished, and any consequences he received were nowhere near as harsh. This format may be due to U.S. laws enacted by the 1970s forbidding aggressive behavior in any form from being shown on Saturday morning cartoons and all children's programming. Plus, Dennis was far less hyperactive in this series and his mischief was made more useful - such as foiling crime - unlike in the newspaper cartoon and comic book series.

Title cards[]
Each of the segments, when aired in syndication, had its own title card, which display as follows:
- Segment A: Two images: the left depicts Dennis jumping for joy, and the other with an excited Ruff running.
- Segment B: Three images: the left depicts Alice and Henry Mitchell slow dancing; the middle depicts Dennis and his group of friends; and the right depicts George and Martha Wilson, with Ruff sitting behind them.
- Segment C: Six images featuring Dennis and his friends. In clockwise order from the top left corner: Dennis, Margaret and Gina, Joey, Dennis blowing a raspberry and Ruff winking, Jay, and PeeBee Kappa.
The CBS broadcasts of Season 2, however, features the title and the writers displayed in Chyron text (Trek Generation font) over a still image from a scene in the corresponding segment. When Season 2 aired in syndication, the syndicated title cards were shown with no writer credit.
